United Cooperati ve Services’ commitment to Energy Innovation continues to grow stronger and this year that’s being demonstrated through an expanded rebate program that paves the way for members to waste less energy and hold onto precious energy dollars. Items and rebates available in United's Energy Innovation Resource Center, in cooperation with Brazos Electric Cooperative, is more robust than ever and now includes complimentary energy-saving resources and a dedicated team of Energy Innovation experts prepared to perform FREE energy analyses at member homes. The program has something for just about everyone, so take advantage of these generous member benefits. (Items available only while supplies last.)
CFL distribution: It's no secret that compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) are the low-hanging fruit in energy efficiency. Virtually every hardware
chain, big box retailer, even grocery store carries these energy-saving devices. Because they're easy to install quickly and because they use between 60%- 75% less electricity than conventional incandescent bulbs, United is giving members complimentary CFLs. At the receptionist desk at each of our 7 offices, members can obtain a few 14 watt CFL. However, United also makes available other types of CFLs in a variety of styles and wattages when one of the cooperatives Energy Innovation Experts conducts a free home energy audit. Bulb varieties include, among others, globe lights suitable for bathrooms, as well as can, or recessed, lights.
Water heater blanket distribution: After heating and cooling, your water heater is the largest energy consumption appliance
in the home, accounting for as much as 20% of your electric bill, according to the Department of Energy. As a result, United is providing members who have electric water heaters in unconditioned areas, FREE insulated water heater blankets. Water heaters must be in unconditioned areas of the member's home (e.g., garage) and blankets will only be distributed during energy audits.
Low-flow shower heads and aerators: Another way to save on water heating costs, and reduce water consumption, is to install low-flow shower heades and faucet aerators. During FREE energy audits, members can obtain these resources at no charge.
